Worked on a collaborative research project which was part of a scientific program called “Total Cryst”. The aim was to reconstruct the 2D orientation map of a polycrystals (e.g. metals) from its X-ray diffraction projection data. Knowledge of orientation map is of interest to material scientists since the physical and chemical properties of a polycrystal are related to its orientation map.

Worked on the open-source project ITK (www.itk.org) with an aim to improve its performance on the 64-Bit-Multiprocessor IRIX machines of SGI for DICOM volume segmentation. Optimized the Geodesic-Active-Contours filter so that its performance can be scaled with increasing the number of processors. C++ code base with extensive use of templates.

Summer 2004

Intern, University of San Pablo- CEU, Madrid, Spain

Worked on a Collaborative research Project with National Center of Biotechnology (CNB) in Madrid. Automatic Particle Selection in 3D electron microscopy. Electron Microscopy is a technique used to determine the 3D structure of macromolecules especially proteins. Worked with the group developing the XMIPP library used in electron microscopy. Designed and implemented the automatic particle selection algorithm. Code base C/C++. Code developed is a part of the XMIPP library.
