Introduction
CAN houses an array of the state-of-the-art computing and communication
equipment dedicated to the support of research projects and educational activities.
It includes some 20 SUN (Ultra-5 and Ultra-10) workstations,
a SUN Enterprise E-420 (4-way) server,
a Dell PowerEdge 6450 (4-way, running Linux) server,
and a Dell PowerEdge 7150 (dual Itanium processors) server,
interconnected by fast Ethernet switches and Gigabit Ethernet switches.
More than three dozens of desktop PC's and laptops,
plus one Alpha 21264 workstation,
are also interconnected through the fast Ethernet switches and
seven wireless access points.
Various peripheral devices and (application and system) software are
available for research use.
These machines constitute a heterogeneous environment suitable for
our investigation into software distributed shared memory.
They also serve as indispensable platforms for our studies of
computer networks through simulation and real implementations.
Research Projects
CAN involves several on-going research projects in the areas of computer
networks and computer architecture. The following list the major projects
undertaken by graduate students and a visiting scholar supported by federal and state funding.
